At the beginning of the year Russian dream-poppers Galway released a couple of demos that left me yearning for more. They’ve spent the past few months recording their first album and developing a collective of like-minded musicians in Moscow. With a frustratingly small community of musicians the city, they say it’s hard to be distant from other artists (they’re tight with my first Russian dream-pop obsession White Wishes). Now, just as winter’s shadow begins to drape over the early afternoon, I’m ready to sit down settle down and get cosy with something new from my favorite Russians. Last night they sent over their their debut album entitled Mria. The twelve-track release includes crisp re-recording of their earlier jams as well as a host of new gorgeously spaced-out tunes. Infectious guitar riffs, atmospheric sonar pings, invigorated drums and lofty vocals drift through out Mria. Pay what you’d like for Mria over at Galway’s bandcamp.

Ezequiel “Cheky” Bertho is a Venezuelan electronic artist who’s been releasing loop-based jams under the moniker Algodón Egipcio (Egyptian Cotton) when not playing as one half of the duo Jóvenes y Sexys. Cheky’s debut solo album, La Lucha Constante, is set to drop March 22nd on Lefse Records (Houses, Dominant Legs, How To Dress Well). Recorded in a burst of creativity after a trip to São Paulo, Brazil, half of the the ten-track release was crafted in a week up in Ezequiel’s cramped Caracas bedroom. Mixing together reverby synths, guitars, syncopated beats, hazy vocals and samples, Algodón Egipcio stumbles through genres, passing through shoegaze, electronic, ambient, lounge and dream pop but never stopping to dwell on just one. Preoder La Lucha Constante, which would be a dope name for an old school rap album, over at Lefse.

New Moscow-based dreampop band Galway has come out of the woodwork this week with the release of its first three laid back jams, ‘sunrise 1991’, ‘air #3’ and ‘each of us love space tears.’ Their soft shoegaze mixes together relaxed vocals, distant guitar riffs and steady drums to craft beautiful tunes. Teenage Reverb is the moniker of Boston-based teen Joseph Zucco. He released his first chilled out, basement-recorded EP, Isolation Tape Night back in June on Orchid Tapes and finished up his second, Summit Demos, just two months later.
