Galapagos - Take Me (Gold Cluster)

Austin-based producer Galapagos (aka teenage phenom Jacob McNaughton) has dropped yet another fantastic track full of intricately stacked samples and fluttering beats. ‘Take Me (Gold Cluster)’ is just a taste of what’s to come from the Phoenix native. Galapagos has a collaborative EP lined up with Australian artist Guerre— it’ll be out May 8th on the always awesome Absent Fever. For now, check out his latest cut below.

Galapagos - Fast

Galapagos (aka Jacob McNaughton) is set to drop his second collection of tunes on April 20th with the release of his Miracle Child EP on Chill Mega Chill. Check out ‘Fast’ off the EP below. Also, Jacob just released a new single called ‘Don’t Speak To Me’ over at his bandcamp. It’s a slower and bit more contemplative than most of his stuff, probably along the same lines as his upcoming EP on Absent Fever, which he recorded soon after moving from Phoenix to Austin and which will be centered around love…

Galapagos - No Where Else

Galapagos (aka Jacob McNaughton) just dropped a new track off his upcoming EP Sounds Vol. 2. I knew that he’d been messing around with some jj samples, but this is far better than anything I’d imagined. Now I can’t wait for the new EP. Jacob’s quickly becoming a mastersampler as he continues to churn out brilliant loop-based jams. In this blissed-out tune he combines vocals from jj’s I’m The One/Money On My Mind with a synthy backbone via Gold Panda’s Before We Talked and some bass from Radiohead’s Everything In Its Right Place. Also make sure to check out his take on N’SYNC’s Tearin Up My Heart on verb/re/verb’s glorious Youth mixtape.

Roman Ruins - The Comedown (Galapagos Remix)

A few months ago I saw Beach House play live. Going in I knew that Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally would blow my mind (of course), but I was also quite impressed by the duo’s touring drummer Graham Hill. I was introduced, fittingly enough, to his solo project Roman Ruins through his remix of Beach House’s ‘Lover Of Mine,’ a few weeks later. So tonight when I saw that Phoenix’s Jacob McNaughton (aka Galapagos) finished up another rad remix, this time of Graham’s single ‘The Comedown,’ I knew it’d be dope. Check it.
