Delorean – Stay Close (RAC Mix)

Andre Anjos, the Portuguese beatmestre behind the Remix Artist Collective (RAC), just released the fourth track off his upcoming remix album, RAC Vol 2, which drops tomorrow. Today’s remix comes by way of one of my favorite Spanish bands, or just bands in general, Barcelona’s Delorean. The remix takes the original dreamy, sun-soaked song and turns the jam into a total dance party, just like when I saw them play in Brooklyn back in November. That show, like this remix, was insane. I don’t know if this remix is gonna make keyboardist Unai Lazcano knock over his synth and dive off the stage (nobody caught him!), but it definitely brings back memories of that sweaty night. Check out the six and a half minute JAM below. I can’t wait to head off to sunny Barcelona on Sunday!

Sun Airway - Oh, Naoko

At the end of October Philadelphia-based electronic pop duo Sun Airway dropped their debut album, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier. The ten-track LP pushes beyond Sun Airway’s previous releases under the name A-Sides. “Sun Airway has hit on the sweet spot where infectious hooks and cerebral electronic pop intersect, pulling textural sound and pop songcraft into one.” Side A’s ‘Oh, Naoko’ is one of the songs off the album that stretches, pulling away from my simple, first-listen classification of Sun Airway as chillwave or bedroom pop. I’ve come to appreciate the album’s complexities— its peppy keys, deep soundscapes (‘Five Years’ is an endless expanse wrapped up into seven minutes), Jon Barthmus’ warm vocals and of course its catchy pop hooks. Pick up Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier here.

Delorean - Real Love (LightsoverLA Remix)

delorean

These days pretty much anyone can strap a dubstep beat on top of a song and have a remix, but LightsoverLA isn’t like the others. His remixes don’t just tack on an estranged electronic pulse which drowns out the backbone of the original track. As with his takes on Two Door Cinema Club, Miike Snow and Crystal Castles, LightoverLA’s rendition of Real Love builds off the Baleric beats and the summery, sun-bleached synths of the Barcelona-based Basques to create an eclectically enhanced mix which manages to leave Igor Escudeo’s breezy beats and Ekhi Lopetegi’s lolloping vocals intact. LightsoverLA is preparing his upcoming EP for an October release, keep on the look out.

MondayMix: 2 de Agosto

Escucharemos Mondaymix - 2 De Agosto on Mixcloud

This week’s mix kicks off with my favorite track off Arcade Fire’s new album The Suburbs, which you should definitely get your hands on. Then we’ve got one of my favorite bands from London, Noah and the Whale, with a tad of remixing. From the many redone versions of Phoenix’s 1901 I chose a nice reggae remix by Ivan Beck— it’s pretty good to hear after a hundred techno renditions. Also this week I decided to toss in two songs by my favorite Brazilian artists, Sérgio Mendes and Seu Jorge. Rapdragons, a hip-hop duo from Baltimore, sample another group from the same city, Beach House in ‘I Went to Her’ off their new release Featuring Baltimore, which you can pick up for free here. Belgian artist Aeroplane's 'We Can't Fly' has been drifting about the interwebs the past few days and I really like it so here it is. San Fran's Hannah Hunt and Ryan William Lynch (aka Dominant Legs) are on the mix with their tune ‘Clawing Out At The Walls’ from their forthcoming album Young at Love and Life. One of my favorite new albums is Brothers by The Black Keys, so here’s their track ‘Everlasting Light’. Basque band Delorean rounds out this weeks mix with their retouch of Glasser's 'Glad'.

A New Mix to Start Off the Week!

It’s been too long. After weeks of ruthless gallivanting, here’s ten fresh tracks to start off the week. First some Daytrotter Sessions from the Brazilian Curumin and LA’s Princeton. I’ve tossed in one of the many remixes of Miike Snow’s ‘Animal’ that are circling the interwebs these days and a track by Malians Amadou and Mariam from a few years back. Also, here’s my favourite tune off The Black Key’s latest album Brothers, the hazy combination of Basque band Delorean and The XX. Add in some remixed Chiddy Bang, Crystal Castles, some Belgian electronic hip-hop courtesy of Stromae and a track off LA duo Kisses' new album The Heart of the Nightlife and you’ve got yourself a beat-bopping mix.

Curumin - ‘Magrela Fever’

Princeton - ‘Stunner Shades In Heaven’

Miike Snow - ‘Animal (Mark Ronson Remix)’

Amadou & Mariam - ‘Sénégal Fast Food’

The Black Keys - ‘Tighten Up’

The XX - ‘Islands (Delorean Remix)’

Chiddy Bang - ‘Stylo’

Crystal Castles - ‘Black Panther’

Stromae - ‘Te Quiero’

Kisses - ‘People Can Do The Most Amazing Things’

MondayMix: Las Últimas de Mayo

The end of May, the beginning of June, the sun shines, the rain departs, for now. Here’s a few beat-bopping tunes to start the simmering summer months. To kick things off we’ve got ourselves a track by The Very Best with Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. As per usual, another Club 8 song has slipped in, but not without a few touches from Iceland’s Jónsi. London’s Tunng, the legendary Sérgio Mendes, Basque favourites Delorean and La Bien Querida also get in on the mix. Swedish band jj and B.o.B add their own touch to two songs, one of which is far classier than the other. Between B.o.B and Ezra Koenig we’ve come quite close to a Vampire Weekend, but maybe that’ll have to wait for next week.

The Very Best - ‘Warm Heart Of Africa (Feat. Ezra Koenig)’

Club 8 - ‘Jesus, Walk With Me (Jónsi Remix)’

Tunng - ‘Hustle’

jj - ‘Ceo Birthday’

B.o.B - ‘The Kids (ft. Janelle Monae)’

Sérgio Mendes - ‘Waters of March (Feat. Ledisi)’

Delorean - ‘Real Love’

La Bien Querida - ‘Corpus Christi’

Have any suggestions for next week’s mix? Send them our way!
