Purity Ring - Ungirthed

Purity Ring is the new side project of GOBBLE GOBBLE’s Corin Roddick and Megan James. Glitchy as hell, the Canadian duo’s first single ‘Ungirthed’ combines pulsating electronic beats, Corin’s faded ghostly echoes, warped synths and a handful of samples with Megan’s floating vocals. What more could you want? More. Toss this addictive jam on repeat. Expect great things.

Roman Ruins - The Comedown (Galapagos Remix)

A few months ago I saw Beach House play live. Going in I knew that Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally would blow my mind (of course), but I was also quite impressed by the duo’s touring drummer Graham Hill. I was introduced, fittingly enough, to his solo project Roman Ruins through his remix of Beach House’s ‘Lover Of Mine,’ a few weeks later. So tonight when I saw that Phoenix’s Jacob McNaughton (aka Galapagos) finished up another rad remix, this time of Graham’s single ‘The Comedown,’ I knew it’d be dope. Check it.

KYNAN - Charlie Found A New Ghost

KYNAN is an up and coming electronic pop artist from San Diego— and he’s got his eyes set on becoming quite a prolific one too. His debut release entitled Try Harder (January Mix) is due out January 31st and will be the first in a series of monthly EPs KYNAN has planned. The second of five tracks off this month’s mix, ‘Charlie Found A New Ghost’, is a shifting song— it starts off very electronic, with layered loops over a baby’s soft rambling, which soon changes into somewhat creepy laughter about halfway through. Then the song morphs, revealing Kynan’s familiar surroundings. The second half of the tune drifts into mellow bedroom pop before fading away. Stream the whole mix from his bandcamp and after the 31st it will be available for free download. We’ll see what his February Mix brings us.

Polarsets - Just Don’t Open Your Eyes Yet

Polarsets are Rob Howe, Mickey Smith and James Rudd, three lads from the land of Little Comets, glorious tropical weather and Alan Shearer— Newcastle, England. With fast-paced guitar, electronic accents and energetic vocals, their songs reminds me of a simpler, more cowbell-loving Two Door Cinema Club. Polarsets are starting to move beyond the Northeast, playing shows across England with the likes of Ellie Goulding, De La Soul and Fenech Soler. I really hope they manage to make it across the pond this year, so I can publicly jump to these tunes. Check out their two self-released singles Leaving Argentina and Morning over at their bandcamp.

Teenage Reverb - Double Exposure

Teenage Reverb is the moniker of Boston-based teen Joseph Zucco. He released his first chilled out, basement-recorded EP, Isolation Tape Night back in June on Orchid Tapes and finished up his second, Summit Demos, just two months later. Joseph’s music sways between lo-fi, surf rock, shoegaze and dulcet pop. Get Summit Demos physically from amdiscs or download it here. Summer days

Young Empires - The Earth Plates Are Shifting

Canadian electronic trio Young Empires started at the end of last year and they already have a several demos circulating about the interwebs. The Toronto-based group’s newest demo ‘The Earth Plates Are Shifting’ is definitely my favorite so far. Look out for them in 2011, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a debut release from these guys in the coming months. Get their songs for free on their myspace.
