Pinemarten - Tea & Toast

Last month, British pop project Pinemarten churned out two short, three-song sets entitled Bay and Home to serve as the bookends of April. Putting together chilled out disco beats from Chesterfield, England, Pinemarten first came on to my radar a few months ago with his remix of Swedish trio Museum of Bellas Artes’ jam Watch The Glow. Now Pinemarten has original tunes trickling out on both his soundcloud and bandcamp. Check out Tea & Toast off Home below.

Galapagos - Fast

Galapagos (aka Jacob McNaughton) is set to drop his second collection of tunes on April 20th with the release of his Miracle Child EP on Chill Mega Chill. Check out ‘Fast’ off the EP below. Also, Jacob just released a new single called ‘Don’t Speak To Me’ over at his bandcamp. It’s a slower and bit more contemplative than most of his stuff, probably along the same lines as his upcoming EP on Absent Fever, which he recorded soon after moving from Phoenix to Austin and which will be centered around love…

Taragana Pyjarama - Ocean

Danish electronic duo Taragana Pyjarama dropped this bottomless soundscape entitled ‘Ocean’ a few weeks ago and I’m still wading through its murky waters. The summer breeze picks up. It dips and dives through the shadows of beats and loops. Hazy vocals whip along the surface, dancing between the sun flares of this five minute cruise. Now, as winter turns summer, Taragana Pyjarama sits, already basking in the endless warmth of the coming months.

Corduroi - All Ways

I’ve been listening to the new EP from Austin’s Corduroi (aka Cody Wilson) a bunch over the past few days and I can’t get enough of it. I just came across the rad video for his song All Ways, which was crafted by Austin-based film collective Color Chart. The video is pretty much just a dude running around the city in one of these, but with a bit of editing it looks super fresh. Gonna try this out fo sho— who’s down? If you haven’t already, download Corduroi’s Anything For Now for free right over here.

Sun Glitters - outside (reprise)

Sun Glitters is the new project of Luxembourg’s Victor Ferreira. Since 1998 he’s been producing some pretty rad downtempo beats under the moniker Sug(r)cane, but on March 11th he dropped his first release as Sun Glitters, an eight-track album entitled everything could be fine. It oozes airy, pitch-shifted vocals that float above loop-based expanses of chilled-out electronica. Sun Glitters’ first set of jams casts morning’s early rays through milky windows of wonky beats and hovers in the mist of a distant dawn. Check out all of Sun Glitters’ enveloping creations over at his bandcamp. Good.

Algodón Egipcio - El Día Previo

Ezequiel “Cheky” Bertho is a Venezuelan electronic artist who’s been releasing loop-based jams under the moniker Algodón Egipcio (Egyptian Cotton) when not playing as one half of the duo Jóvenes y Sexys. Cheky’s debut solo album, La Lucha Constante, is set to drop March 22nd on Lefse Records (Houses, Dominant Legs, How To Dress Well). Recorded in a burst of creativity after a trip to São Paulo, Brazil, half of the the ten-track release was crafted in a week up in Ezequiel’s cramped Caracas bedroom. Mixing together reverby synths, guitars, syncopated beats, hazy vocals and samples, Algodón Egipcio stumbles through genres, passing through shoegaze, electronic, ambient, lounge and dream pop but never stopping to dwell on just one. Preoder La Lucha Constante, which would be a dope name for an old school rap album, over at Lefse.

Moths -

Jack Colleran is a seventeen-year-old Irish electronic producer who just released his third single ‘Moths. With a knack for constructing downtempo soundscapes full of blips and layered textures, Moths is definitely a name to watch. Check the video for his newest and most laid-back single, a re-scored scene from Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1970 film Zabriskie Point. Fresh.

Loft Apartment - Kolipri EP

Loft Apartment is the new solo project of Aaro Vahtera, a college student from Turku, Finland. His first release, Kolipri EP, is only four songs but it moves between a handful of genres. Spanning from classical piano compositions to chillwave to dream pop and even mixing in a bit of downtempo dubstep, the variety of Aaro’s first few songs shows his ability to blend together his many influences to craft unique sounding tunes— and he promises there are many more in the works up in his loft apartment. Check out his Kolipri EP over at his soundcloud.

Purity Ring - Ungirthed

Purity Ring is the new side project of GOBBLE GOBBLE’s Corin Roddick and Megan James. Glitchy as hell, the Canadian duo’s first single ‘Ungirthed’ combines pulsating electronic beats, Corin’s faded ghostly echoes, warped synths and a handful of samples with Megan’s floating vocals. What more could you want? More. Toss this addictive jam on repeat. Expect great things.

Roman Ruins - The Comedown (Galapagos Remix)

A few months ago I saw Beach House play live. Going in I knew that Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally would blow my mind (of course), but I was also quite impressed by the duo’s touring drummer Graham Hill. I was introduced, fittingly enough, to his solo project Roman Ruins through his remix of Beach House’s ‘Lover Of Mine,’ a few weeks later. So tonight when I saw that Phoenix’s Jacob McNaughton (aka Galapagos) finished up another rad remix, this time of Graham’s single ‘The Comedown,’ I knew it’d be dope. Check it.
